Intended Audience: This course in intended for individuals who face a risk of electrical hazards and need to understand the electrical hazards present in their work environment; however, this course is also designed for those who need to answer questions on the direction of current safety programs and how to incorporate new requirements into their safety policies and procedures as well as equipment labeling.

Course Description: ARC Flash Safety / Electrical Safety NFPA 70E Course for Qualified Workers

Eight hour class lead by an industry veteran with 26 years in the field. Course covers practical application of OSHA and NFPA 70E workplace safety requirements for “Qualified   Workers” This class meets the requirements of training as defined in NFPA 70E, Chapter 1, Article 110.2 and OSHA 1910.332 

Objectives: After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify electrical hazards
  • Classify electrical hazards and apply techniques and procedures for safe work practices
  • Identify techniques to create a culture where electrical safety is part of the workplace environment

  • Hazards of Electricity-­‐Shock & Arc Flash/Blast
  • Electrical safety priciples and safety controls
  • Hazard prevention and site evaluation
  • Electrical safety and approach boundaries for qualified and unqualified employees
  • Types of electrical faults and their characteristics
  • Effects of Arc Flash and Arc Blast
  • Overview of Arc Flash Boundary Calculations (Annex D)
  • Selecting flash protection PPE based on incident energy
  • Selecting PPE using Hazard Risk Classification of NFPA 70E Tables of 130.7C
  • Review of OSHA subpart S
  • NFPA 70E 2012 Overview of Annexes
  • Compliance requirements and mitigation

Course includes a Certificate of Completion.  NFPA 70E Standard Books are available in class or prior to class for $65 each.
